چکیده

Groundwater is a vital source of irrigation and domestic purposes in Bangladesh, hence, it must satisfy the water quality guidelines. The study has selected eleven (11) Districts Bangladesh collect secondary data regarding groundwater. Several indices, such as soluble sodium percentage (SSP), adsorption ratio (SAR), magnesium (MAR), residual carbonate (RSC), Kelly’s (KR), permeability index (PI), (IWQ) are applied to evaluate quality. According IWQindex, results showed 25.5% samples fell highly suitability type, whereas 33.5% exhibited low remaining 41% were medium for purposes. values SAR, SSP, RSBC, MAR indices that about 31-64% very good, 5-20% poor same purpose. TDS, EC, total hardness good 88-93% fair excellent salinity hazard was found groundwater coastal areas completely unfit irrigation. findings would help improving management resources agricultural Bangladesh.

Nitrate Contamination of Groundwater under Irrigated Coastal Plain Soils

To develop best management practices (BMP) for agricultural land to protect groundwater, data is needed on the leaching of N from irrigated coastal plain soils treated with poultry manure. This study was conducted to determine the vertical and seasonal patterns of NO3 leaching under such soils. Four commercially farmed corn (Zea mays L.) fields were studied, two receiving only fertilizer N (240...

Hydrogeochemistry of Groundwater and Arsenic Adsorption Characteristics of Subsurface Sediments in an Alluvial Plain, SW Taiwan

Many studies were conducted to investigate arsenic mobilization in different alluvial plains worldwide. However, due to the unique endemic disease associated with arsenic (As) contamination in Taiwan, a recent research was re-initiated to understand the transport behavior of arsenic in a localized alluvial plain. A comprehensive approach towards arsenic mobility, binding, and chemical speciatio...

Cellular automata and GIS based landuse suitability simulation for irrigated agriculture

Cellular automata (CA) is increasingly used to simulate various dynamic courses, e.g. urban spatial growth, forest fire spread and soil desertification. CA simulates these courses with iterative evolvements. Through simple and partial rules to form complex space structures and patterns, CA can express complex systems which are difficult to perform only with mathematical formulas. In combination...

Recharge and Groundwater Use in the North China Plain for Six Irrigated Crops for an Eleven Year Period

Water tables are dropping by approximately one meter annually throughout the North China Plain mainly due to water withdrawals for irrigating winter wheat year after year. In order to examine whether the drawdown can be reduced we calculate the net water use for an 11 year field experiment from 2003 to 2013 where six irrigated crops (winter wheat, summer maize, cotton, peanuts, sweet potato, ry...

Long-Term Observa ons of Vadose Zone and Groundwater Nitrate Concentra ons under Irrigated Agriculture

290 T demand for higher crop yields and the relatively low cost of N fertilizer per unit of yield increase has resulted in increased NO3–N concentrations in the groundwater, especially in areas with coarse-textured soils and shallow groundwater. An increased level of NO3–N in the groundwater is not a locally confi ned problem, however, as NO3–N from agricultural sources in the Midwest has been ...
